Dangerous Game rifle and iron sights
Everyone’s eyes are different. And as Ive aged, my eyes have reminded me that I’m not getting younger. Recently and for my first African hunt, I have bought a nice left handed M70 in 375 H&H. Im REALLY enjoying the big bore power and experimenting with different bullets and loads. Since it has iron/open sights I have set them for a 100yd zero. But I went a little different route. I ordered a NECG ghost ring rear and installed and old school Redfield Sourdough front blade. This...

Can't believe shipping costs
I've never had taxidermy shipped before so after recently getting the projected shipping quotes from SA to USA outlined below it came as a shock. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but at this rate it's considerably more than the cost of the projected taxidermy work.
Do these prices seem reasonable based on todays market?
Keep in mind this would be for just one kudu pedestal mount so I'm wondering how much the shipping cost would drop if I did just a standard shoulder mount or a euro...

First Time Flying With Firearms
I recently came back from a trip to Namibia, my first, and took two rifles with me. I’ve enjoyed all the information I have received from this forum and posts like these are what have helped me the most in the past. Hopefully, it is of use to someone else.
When I planned this trip I looked at the issue of bringing my own firearm(s) or renting the camp gun. Ultimately, I’m a bit too nostalgic about firearms to shoot any old gun. It has to be something that I have and am making history with...

The Draw of the Sporting Double Rifle
One doesn't just pick up a double, one handles it, feels it, and it immediately talks to you. There is a balance that puts it between your hands, begging to be shouldered and inviting the eye to align those purposeful express sights to your quarry imagined or real, huge and menacing, and close! A double isn't about dots in the distance, it is about hair and crinkled skin, about tusks and wet noses that would as soon kill you as you would them. A supremely functional tool, nay partner in...

45-90 For Cape Buffalo
I've come across an interesting proposition for a dangerous game rifle for NA/Africa, that being the 45-90 in a modern production 1886 Miroku made Winchester.
Buffalo Bore makes +P loadings for this exact rifle, with a published FPS of their 430 gr gas check hard cast at 2255 FPS. This is is 4850 Ft/lbs at the muzzle - plenty for Alaska Brown bear & in my opinion Cape buffalo. If one considers factory 458 WM loadings sufficient, real world energy is only 200 Ft/lbs higher. In my opinion the...
